Getting Ready for 2018: My Process for Goal Setting

Getting Ready for 2018: My Process for Goal Setting

So many of us make new year’s resolutions and then wonder why we don’t see them through. We make plans, we join the gym, fill our Pinterest boards with all the healthy food we are going to eat, the cute new clothes we will buy, […]

The Perils of Living Behind the Donut Shop

The Perils of Living Behind the Donut Shop

Aparigraha, or The Mad Hoarder Sells All Her Stuff

Aparigraha, or The Mad Hoarder Sells All Her Stuff

When my yoga teacher challenged the class to pick a Yama (Yamas are part of the ethical code of yoga) to work on, I picked Aparigraha instantly, because I felt I needed it the most. All my life, I have been that person who picks […]

May Challenge!

May Challenge!

Not gonna lie, I am a weenie when it comes to Chaturanga.  So I made this challenge for myself in the hopes that I would overcome my negative vibes this pose.

“Four-Limbed-Staff-Pose” or Chaturanga, is a deceptively challenging pose.  What seems like simply a pause in a push-up becomes more as you turn your focus to the key points: hand placement, core activation, and leg strength.  This pose will strengthen your arms (particularly the triceps), shoulders, and legs.  It prepares your body for inversions.  Yoga Journal has a great article on the finer points.

May Day!

May Day!

Happy May Day! In ancient times, the First of May was celebrated as the beginning of summer.  Since this day falls approximately halfway between the spring equinox and the summer solstice, it was long used to usher in the new season.  In modern times, there […]

You Are A Badass: How to Stop Doubting Your Greatness and Start Living an Awesome Life by Jen Sincero

Meditations on the Intention of Being: Daily Reflections on the Path of Yoga, Mindfulness, and Compassion by Rolf Gates

How Yoga Works by Geshe Michael Roach

The Dharma of Star Wars by Matthew Bortolin

Star Wars: Tarkin by James Luceno

Recommended Reading:

Warrior Goddess Training: Become the Woman You Are Meant to Be by HeatherAsh Amara

Big Magic: Creative Living Beyond Fear by Elizabeth Gilbert

Be by A.C. Ping

Life of Pi by Yann Martel

Star Wars: Catalyst by Lames Luceno

Mists of Avalon by Marion Zimmer Bradley

I know that there is some fiction mixed in here, but these particular novels, in my opinion, are more than just fluff reading.  They show us heroes and villains, fleshed out, with flaws and virtues not available to show in movies or even television shows.  There are a lot of lessons in life that are learned by the characters of fiction, and we go along with them and learn these lessons too.

What books do you recommend for the hero’s journey?  Send me a message and I’ll be happy to respond!
